This time, we speak to KENJI, a former competitive kickboxer who became known as the “Punching Bag Performer” and “Ninja Boxer.” Beyond the gloves, KENJI dedicates himself to volunteer work, using his platform to inspire and make a difference both in Japan and around the world.
From Pain to Purpose. Why KENJI Pursues ‘World Peace’
At first glance, KENJI’s dream of world peace might seem lofty. But it all started from a difficult and deeply personal place. A difficult memory from school.
“I was bullied in school. That was when I realized it was easier to change myself than to wait for the world to change.”
For KENJI, the first dream was simply to change himself.
Boxing became his outlet, a way not only to build physical strength but to grow mentally and emotionally. Over time, that strength led to a new desire: to become strong for the sake of others.
“Because I became strong, I was finally able to understand other people’s pain. That’s when the dream of creating a peaceful world began to grow naturally.”
Why Would a World Champion Become a “Punching Bag Performer”?
Even after competing at the highest level in professional kickboxing, KENJI realized that international fame wasn’t guaranteed. Complicated sports politics and a lower-profile weight class made it difficult to break through.
“I felt like things wouldn't change if I simply stayed on that path.”
So he began searching for a new form of self-expression. The answer came in the form of a bold street performance: inviting people to punch him. Thus, the “Punching Bag Performer” was born — an unconventional act that captured attention and sparked meaningful interactions.
Now, under the persona of the Ninja Boxer, KENJI continues to perform and connect with people across the globe.
Volunteering and a Vision of Peace
KENJI’s dream of world peace has remained steadfast since those high school days.
He has traveled to Dubai, Spain, Malaysia, China, the Philippines, and beyond, blending his performances with grassroots volunteer efforts. Among these, the Philippines holds a special place in his heart.
“I’ve taught boxing to kids in the slums and delivered food and water to communities hit by fire. But what motivates me most is the smiles of the people I meet."
"Even after losing their homes, they’d smile and say, ‘My family’s safe, I’ve got my arms and legs — I can start over.’ I found that strength and beauty overwhelming.”
To KENJI, peace isn’t just the absence of conflict — it’s the presence of joy, dignity, and connection in everyday life.
“We often think we’re going to ‘help’ people, but that’s our perspective. They don’t see themselves as pitiful. Talking with them changed the way I see the world.”
Why He Never Gives Up on a Dream That Never Ends
Despite the challenges, KENJI says he has never once felt like giving up.
“I’ve never thought it was hard. When you have a dream, moving forward just feels natural.”
And because “world peace” is a dream without a definitive goal, it gives him the freedom to keep going, always.
“I’ve accomplished a lot of dreams already, but world peace has no finish line. That’s what keeps me excited and motivated to keep trying.”
His joy comes not just from what he’s doing, but how it inspires others, especially children, to imagine bigger possibilities for their own lives.
To Everyone Chasing a Dream

“I’ve achieved many dreams, but the dream of world peace is the one that never ends. That’s why I’ll always be excited to keep trying.”

“Your dream doesn’t need to be perfect from the start. Even just thinking, ‘I’d like to try this’ is enough.”
